Story: Scott A. Bachmann | Art: Scott D.M. Simmons
Here’s a case where the artist took my panel layouts and made them better. I also like how we’ve consistently broken the panel walls in this comic. Figures and word balloons just won’t stay in there tiny boxes.
The fibbing-nazis line will make more sense when you see the next page. I couldn’t nail the pacing to get the next panel on this page. But if you’re a classical music geek, or a math geek, you may already know what Gail is talking about. You’re also a step ahead of everyone else in knowing that Gail is doing well in more than school.
Liza’s face saying “What Vigilante?” may be favorite face yet.
ORIGINAL SCRIPT
Panel 1
Same. FLARE looks annoyed.
LIBERTY
Helping out huh? So you’re that vigilante we’ve been getting reports about?
Panel 2
Same. GWEN is elated.
LIZA
What vigilante?
GWEN
Here! In the capital! There’s been all kinds of sightings! The first was three months ago when some bad men tried to rob a gas station -
FLARE
Oh no. Here she goes with the stories. Why do you wind her up Liberty?
LIBERTY
Wasn’t me. That girl comes pre-wound.
Panel 3
Large panel. Living room, or a music room. (It’s a big house) There is a baby grand piano, and GAIL is sitting at it practicing. LEON is beside her on the bench. GAIL is calm and focused and playing. LEON is surprised.
LEON
What are you playing? That’s not in the book.
GAIL
Dave Bussy or something. My teacher played it and I liked it.
LEon
Debussy? You heard it once, and you’re playing it?
GAIL
I can hear all the fibbing nazis in it, so it’s easy.
